Thanksgiving
Although I am currently mostly in Denmark and that we in this country do not celebrate Thanksgiving, I have celebrated Thanksgiving many times in the 20 years that I have lived in California. The United States celebrates Thanksgiving on the fourth Thursday of November, in Canada they celebrate Thanksgiving on the second Monday in October. In addition to the United States and Canada, Thanksgiving is also celebrated in some of the Caribbean islands and in Liberia. The Thanksgiving tradition in the United States dates to the time when pilgrimages arrived on American soil and when Western colonists shared a meal with the American natives.
During my years living in California, I celebrated Thanksgiving with my little family and friends. After moving back to Denmark, I have been in California every two years to celebrate Thanksgiving with my children, consequences after a lengthy divorce process.
THANKSGIVING IS THE FAMILY CELEBRATION
A KIND OF HARVEST FESTIVAL
Thanksgiving is the feast of the family, the event is a kind of harvest festival, where family and friends gather around the table for a meal with the crops of the harvest. The tradition is to eat turkey for the vegetable dishes and then pumpkin pie or apple pie, but today Honey Baked Ham has become popular to order and pick up Thanksgiving day. I also found that it is “Hyggelig” to stand in a long line and talk to the other people who are waiting to get their Honey Baked Ham. Another tradition that I like is that someone in the family says a prayer of thanksgiving or, as our tradition, that everyone around the table says something that they are grateful for...
A GRATEFUL HEART IS
A MAGNET FOR MIRACLES
The above affirmation: A grateful heart is a magnet for miracles, I always say out loud or in my quiet mind several times during the day, when a certain uneasiness arises no matter what it is, it always gives an inner peace, and everything resolves itself. Gratitude changes everything. Being grateful for what you have, then you will have more to be grateful for. It makes you happier and you pass on your positive energy to the people around you.
Life can sometimes be difficult with many challenges, as in these times all over the world with energy crisis and inflation. Avoid focusing on the worries, but instead focus on something that you are grateful for. Now that I'm writing this blog, I'm grateful for my magnificent view of my small snowy courtyard with the sun's rays peeking out in the distance behind the dark clouds slowly disappearing.
Expressing gratitude increases appreciation of everything around you, benefits closer relationships with your loved ones and an inner peace and joy, being happy despite the current challenge, which will always change with time.
Gratitude exercise
The following exercise is from my L.O.V.E. coaching, E.- Every day be grateful. I have a new course ready for January, take a closer look at www.meretheshenon.com/coaching.
Learning Activity: Gratitude
Each night, before going to bed, try to write down in your notebook at least three things that you have been grateful for during the day. Big things like small things, it's not important. Write down the date and the things for which you are grateful. Over the course of a few weeks, you'll start noticing things to be grateful for during the day, knowing that you'll need to say thank you for it in the evening. This simple exercise makes you present in the moment and is able to change your life.
Likewise, when you are sitting at the dinner table with the family, try that everyone says something for which they are grateful.
Write a letter of gratitude to someone who has helped make your life better, big, or small.
Don't think about how it works – let the Universe work for you!
I wish everyone a happy Thanksgiving on Thursday, November 24, and a happy Advent time. Embrace yourself and others with love and happiness.
In health and Happiness
